So, I’m well into the 2nd day of Camp NaNoWriMo 2013, and thankfully, well into my word count for my story. I was concerned that I’d be lagging behind a little, having helped a friend move out over the weekend, and travelling back to Bradford on Monday, but I’ve made decent progress and I’m currently at 3,273 words and two chapters – three if you count the prologue.
A new character has invented herself – one of Hikari’s schoolmates – and I’ve got a better feeling about the character development, as the initial plan left me thinking that the plot might be a little metallic and boring. It’s going to be one of those stories that is as much about the characters as it is about the plot. The schoolmate is going to be imperative in the overall plan, giving Hikari an anchor with which to ground herself, and an aspect of conscience to help her consider her own actions.
I’ve essentially worked out that Hikari, my main character, is an interesting mix of traits. She is thorough and methodical in her work, but because of her caring nature, she can be taken advantage of. She is reserved, but dislikes being alone because of growing up with a close knit family. I’m sure these traits will evolve into a great, interesting main character. This is her story after all; I’m merely the storyteller. I’ll keep you updated on the book as it progresses!
