NaNoWriMo 2013 Day -1

Okay, yes I know that isn’t entirely accurate/sensible but stick with me here.

It’s two days to NaNoWriMo, and I’ve got pretty much everything I want to sit and think about for the moment planned out. As someone who started out as a pantser – that is, one who does it by the seat of their pants – I think I am making progress towards… I don’t know, actually getting my stuff together I suppose.

I’ve a long, IMDB-type synopsis down (in that if you read it, it will basically spoil the entire story and there won’t be much point going to see the movie because screw you internet) and character profiles for everyone except the main character, because my main character is essentially just a more mature, world-weary version of her teenage self that appeared in Hikari’s ComaAnd I’m not discounting the fact that I basically sit listing everything about my characters in my head most days so that goes in there too. I’m done with planning.

I actually really want to get into the story. I keep looking at the synopsis and going – in a voice that is probably slight disconcerting to most – goddamn I wish I could write you already. But I’m going to play by the rules, or at least the ones that sit right by me. If I finish early, I finish early. If I don’t make it, I don’t make it. It doesn’t make the entire story a failed project. I ditched last year’s NaNo two days in because I literally did not have the time to do it, what with editing the previous year’s efforts and working full time. I’m essentially doing the same this year but fortunately this time around I have a job that doesn’t make me want to tear out my intestines with my bare hands. And thus I won’t be dropping it before I even get going.

So I say, bring on the start date and roll on November 1st; I’m ready as I’ll ever be.

As always, if you’re participating and want to add me to your buddy list: danieljaeger413. Do it bro. Make it happen.

Interviews, Radio Plays and Delays

Hello everyone!

Just a quick update to let you know what I’m doing at the moment. First of all, I’d like to apologise for the lack of timely updates with Night God Bless lately. I am currently in the midst of a huge radio play project in my pays-the-bills job, which involves a lot of writing. I am completely overwhelmed by the amount of writing I’m doing during the day, so to sit down and work on my own projects is stressful at the moment. I am still going to continue Night God Bless, and Hikari’s Coma will be out as soon as I’ve rewritten the ending and done a final editing run. I just need a break. Therefore, Night God Bless is on a short hiatus until I can hammer my life back into some sort of balance.

In good news, however, I am going to be on a radio show to talk about Hikari’s Coma and my writing in general! The show is called Writers’ Circle, and while I don’t have a definite date for the broadcast yet, it will be on BCB 106.6 FM, where I work during the week. I will give you more information as it comes through, but I’m looking forward to it, and it should give you an idea of what I’m doing in a way that I probably couldn’t explain through blogs!

Also, NaNoWriMo is just around the corner, and project aside, I’m still raring to go with The Legion of Truth. As before, I’ll keep you up to date with everything that I’m up to over the duration of the month, and hopefully give you an interesting insight into how I’m going about this action packed sci-fi novel.

That’s all I’ve got for today, but thanks for keeping with me! I promise you that things will get very interesting over the next few months!

Night God Bless: Point-07 is out now!

Hello once again!

After a delay of approximately 24 hours, the 7th part to the adventures of Daniel Darke and his comrades is out at the usual place, right here on We’re nearing the bulk of the story now, and the real reason I actually started this little escapade. Haven’t started reading yet? Well, there’s no time like the present! Click this link here to dive straight into the action!

This Year’s NaNoWriMo Plans…

Hey again everyone,

It’s about that time again, by which I mean, time for me to spill my writerly guts across the blogosphere. With the air dropping colder now we’re into October, and the days getting darker, it adds a certain pleasant darkness that fits well with planning out a NaNoWriMo project that looks into the darker parts of my quirky little universe.

My working title, at least thus far, is The Legion of Truth, which I’m not entirely happy with, but if I come up with something better then you’ll certainly know about it. The name is taken from a rebel group who, through various means, believe they have stumbled upon a conspiracy that could shake the foundations of Tonlist, and indeed, the rest of the world. They are closer than they have ever been to cracking a major part of this mystery, but in order to do that, they need a hacker, and a skilled one at that.

Enter Kelly Kaptur, the only human to have ever hacked an advanced AI. After her encounter with the Artificial Intelligence RAINE fourteen years ago, she disappeared off the grid, only ever popping up as a whisper in online forums or low-grade ‘zines, and even then, only as her nickname ‘Gemini’, related to her personal calling card.

True to his word, the head of the Legion finds Kaptur again, this time in the shady underworld of Technis, where the anonymity of the underclass gives her a wide berth to operate, compared to the world above.  She is offered a clean slate in return for what could be the most dangerous job she’s ever attempted.

In terms of the timeline of my little universe so far, it’s 2 years prior to the events of Industrial Espionage, and 14 years after the events of Hikari’s Coma. Kelly, since then, has changed considerably, while still retaining her… charming mannerisms and exceptional computing skills.

I’m looking forward to getting to work on it, as it’s the most traditionally ‘sci-fi’ book I’ve ever attempted, and KK is a fun character to write. I’ve also planned out a number of different side characters who you will hopefully come to love almost as much as I do. If not more! (It’s possible, I’m sure.)

I’ll keep you updated with my progress; with my website well underway now, I am planning to keep a daily blog of how things are going during the events of NaNoWriMo! Good luck to all of you who are undertaking it again or for the first time, and I’ll see you on the other side.
