Hey again everyone,
It’s about that time again, by which I mean, time for me to spill my writerly guts across the blogosphere. With the air dropping colder now we’re into October, and the days getting darker, it adds a certain pleasant darkness that fits well with planning out a NaNoWriMo project that looks into the darker parts of my quirky little universe.
My working title, at least thus far, is The Legion of Truth, which I’m not entirely happy with, but if I come up with something better then you’ll certainly know about it. The name is taken from a rebel group who, through various means, believe they have stumbled upon a conspiracy that could shake the foundations of Tonlist, and indeed, the rest of the world. They are closer than they have ever been to cracking a major part of this mystery, but in order to do that, they need a hacker, and a skilled one at that.
Enter Kelly Kaptur, the only human to have ever hacked an advanced AI. After her encounter with the Artificial Intelligence RAINE fourteen years ago, she disappeared off the grid, only ever popping up as a whisper in online forums or low-grade ‘zines, and even then, only as her nickname ‘Gemini’, related to her personal calling card.
True to his word, the head of the Legion finds Kaptur again, this time in the shady underworld of Technis, where the anonymity of the underclass gives her a wide berth to operate, compared to the world above. She is offered a clean slate in return for what could be the most dangerous job she’s ever attempted.
In terms of the timeline of my little universe so far, it’s 2 years prior to the events of Industrial Espionage, and 14 years after the events of Hikari’s Coma. Kelly, since then, has changed considerably, while still retaining her… charming mannerisms and exceptional computing skills.
I’m looking forward to getting to work on it, as it’s the most traditionally ‘sci-fi’ book I’ve ever attempted, and KK is a fun character to write. I’ve also planned out a number of different side characters who you will hopefully come to love almost as much as I do. If not more! (It’s possible, I’m sure.)
I’ll keep you updated with my progress; with my website well underway now, I am planning to keep a daily blog of how things are going during the events of NaNoWriMo! Good luck to all of you who are undertaking it again or for the first time, and I’ll see you on the other side. If you’re participating, feel free to add me to your writer buddies; my username is danieljaeger413.
